Four years ago, when The Toddler in Chief: What Donald Trump Teaches Us about the Modern Presidency was about to be released, I was all set for a big rollout. My publicists had arranged for me to talk about the book at South by Southwest (SXSW) in a moderated interview with my Space the Nation podcasting partner Ana Marie Cox.
It was scheduled for March 2020. For some strange reason, however, it got canceled.
So when I was asked to participate in a SXSW panel this year, I felt like I had a chance to get closure on an event I almost attended.
This is a long-winded way of saying that the hard-working staff here at Spoiler Alerts will be headed to South By Southwest next month for not one, but two fun events!
First, I’ll be putting my “zombie expert/end of the world professor” hat on and participating in a SXSW panel entitled, “What’s Next?! Preparing for the Next Global Health Crisis” on Saturday, March 9th, from 2:30-3:30 local time. Here the panel description:
Disease outbreak? Zombie apocalypse? Something in between? Whatever comes, we all want to know how to be prepared, for the sake of our family, our business, our community. This diverse panel will address the intersection of technology and policy, community engagement, supply chains, and public-private partnerships to ensure resilience and well-being, no matter what comes next.
You’ll need to procure a SXSW badge to attend that event. But my other event is free for everyone! Ana and I will be recording our very first live episode of Space the Nation! At 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 9th, we’ll discuss Dune, Part Two:
[Um, where are you recording it?—ed.] Oh, right! Ana and I will be taping at:
121 Pickle Rd (just off South Congress)
Austin, TX 78704
United States
If you’re attending SXSW, please come to the panel! If you’re near the Austin are and like sci-fi and poli sci, come hear Ana and I do the voodoo that we do!!
