Roberts had already legalized corruption for all but the stupidest pols. This is just the next evolutionary step.

Equal-opportunity corruption and bribery...even the most thick-witted of politicos can now cash in on favorable votes, as no longer is there any need to play silly buggers with bribery vs "gifts of appreciation".

As long as you don't say "I am accepting this money in return for doing this official act"

The shocking thing for me is that at least so far he’s paying no political price. If a significant enough proportion of the populace is willing to tolerate or even approve of these measures, the Republic as it has been for many years is doomed.

It may take a while, but norms are ultimately enforced by the people. If they don’t consider them worth enforcing, then it’s only a matter of time before they collapse.

Give it some time. The House just released their budget and boy, it is a humdinger. Guaranteed to slam red state residents (the Committee on Energy and Commerce has to cut $800,000,000,000 from their budget over the next 10 years. They oversee Medicaid and Medicare).

Farmers have signed contracts for seed to plant this spring, now those contracts are in limbo. No money to buy seed? No planting, no crop.

Not to mention the contracts that farms signed with the Biden administration to improve things like erosion, water use, sustainable farming, etc. All out the window.

Yes, if the money has already been allocated by Congress, contracts signed, etc, Trump can't make it go away with a wave of his hand.
