We’ve stopped noticing that the Republican Party is now fully oriented towards opposing democracy. The Republican Supreme Court is leading the way.

Recent data proposes that the cost of climate change has and will continue to erode the GDP of nations world-wide and will become an unendurable burden in the not to distant future. In short, pooh-poohing this reality for the last five decades has created a deficit that is only becoming visible as an outside force beyond human control.

So, neo this or neo that, the very thought that some kind of change in the character of the societies we've create here and there will sweep away the gleeful ignorance that condones not seeing, hearing or feeling the very real challenges of a shared future seems a bit banal. Just a reminder, Americans have yet to get over the damn civil war that occurred more than 150 years ago. Thinking that a common bond is about to grip this or any other country is equal to thinking that Trump will see the light and never ever, ever, ever tell a lie again!

The thing to remember is the GOP and Dem parties are private, nonprofit organizations which are funded mostly by large donor stakeholders, like the health, banking, tech, and energy industries. These can, and do, dictate policy, which is "sold" back to the party faithful. This is why one should always be leery of reforms which claim to save taxpayer or consumer money. Industry is not in the business of giving money to lose money.
