The mainstream book publishing industry is stuck in the era of steamships and it sounds from this like academic publishing is still at the sail-powered phase.
You make an excellent case for publishing reviews directly online by the reviewer. The publisher can take it up if they want but otherwise, tempus fugit. Although a journal published review I did 5 years ago of a book published 10 years ago is getting more looks in the past two years than anything I’ve ever written.
"Agathe Demarais' Backfire: How Sanctions Reshape the World Against U.S. Interests" and "Demarais claims in the preface that “this book is not for or against sanctions" The author needs to look up the word contradiction
"sanctions have become the Oxycontin of American foreign policy" is a good line. but very annoying when the author does not respond to legitimate criticisms. many such cases!

My Very Grumpy Book Review
An airing of book review "greivances"
Misspelling of grievances will make you even more grumpy...sorry, mate.
I thought it was "i before e, except when aggreived."

Thanks, I did like that line.
I'm just starting Farrell and Newman's _Underground Empire_ ( https://www.programmablemutter.com/p/underground-empire-is-a-prime-day ) and, reading this review, I'm curious if you've read it and have thoughts about it.
I've read it and have thoughts about it. https://danieldrezner.substack.com/p/americas-underground-grand-strategy
Thanks. It seemed likely, but that was before I started reading the substack.
