Having lived through McCarthy (Joe) and Vietnam/Watergate, I think I have some perspective on our current situation. It's not that bad, and will likely improve with time. Some changes we like, some we don't, and we'll die regardless, leaving a changed country to our descendants.

You are far more encouraged than I am by the response to Jan 6 and the election denial BS. Note that all the reaction you quoted came from democrats and that the party representing nearly half of all American citizens still believes (or at least publicly declares) that the election was stolen, that Jan 6 was just a prank, and that Donald Trump is the cure for the worlds woes. A good percentage of the Republican Party's (of which I was once a member) senators and representatives are complete idiots (e.g. Marjorie Taylor Greene) and showing any backbone or intelligence is the one thing that will prevent your election in a red state.

Good summary of all the many actions that have been taken to strengthen our democracy, we are still at risk alas and democracy will continue to be fragile!
