Julian Assange's plight should be considered along with Snowden and Teixeira. After all he published redacted information supplied by Manning who is now free. The notion that the US DoJ is pursuing and demanding extradition of a foreign national through a foreign court with unfounded allegations of espionage in legislation drafted in 1917 and rarely used since bears no credulity other than demonstrating that free speech and the right to practice responsible journalism is now under threat world wide.

Thank you for your postings - all very interesting. I had the privilege to visit USSR for 4 weeks in 1989 (Reagan was in Moscow negotiating the SALT Treaty with Gorbachev so we saw the impressive motorcades!.) We were hosted in Moscow, Leningrad (now St Petersburg) and Novosibirsk by communities of medical scientists. We also had the privilege of home visits with professional colleagues and all were impressed by the interest of the Russian hosts seeking news of lifestyle in the West (me, Australia),and their hope that friendly and co-operative relations could develop. between USSR and all nations. Such a pity that since 2014 cordial relationships appear to be impossible at administrative levels over Western governments and modern Russia. Bon voyage for your travels - I look forward to reading your findings.
