Dear readers,
The hard-working staff here at Spoiler Alerts is headed overseas — again. Last month was Central Asia; this month is northwest Europe — the Netherlands and United Kingdom to be exact. I will be giving some talks in both places. There might be some sightseeing as well, though of a very different kind from my Central Asia trip.
Posting will be on the intermittent side, depending on the mercurial gods of hotel wifi.
In the meanwhile, however, might I recommend subscribing to my podcast Space the Nation? Co-hosted with podcaster and writer extraordinaire Ana Marie Cox, we tackle the political science of science fiction. Whether it is stuff that is just coming out (like this) or stuff that is viewed as sci-fi canon but merits a closer look (our Canon Fodder series) or stuff that was viewed poorly at one point but might merit a reconsideration (our Schlock or Awe series), we tackle a wide range of science fiction, from Octavia Butler to Alien to GEOSTORM!!!!
If you are at all interested in science fiction, there is a lot of good content. In this calendar year alone Ana and I have talked about Apple+’s Silo, Star Trek’s Strange New Worlds, Michael Bay’s Armageddon, HBO’s The Last of Us, Tom Sweterlitsch’s The Gone World, and — of course — Alien v. Predator. That’s just a smattering of what is in our archives. So please become a patron — which comes with a lot of benefits — and help Ana and I continue to justify doing the show to the ones we love.
Ciao!
Dan
Are there plans for a meet-up or anything along similar lines? Being UK-based, I'd love to meet the hard-working staff at Drezner's World.
Obviously you *have* to review Starship Troopers...
